York Barbican: accessibility for snooker visitors
Book the tournament’s accessible allocation and plan the route to your place before travelling to York.
Checked on 6 October 2026
Book the access you need
The venue uses Nimbus verification for online AXS accessible tickets. A full Access Card is accepted, but you can instead register for a free AXS Digital Access Pass, valid for three years. You do not have to buy the optional £15 Access Card just to use the free York ticketing route.
Apply before tickets are needed: the venue has not promised an assessment turnaround. The access symbol attached to your account determines the booking arrangements. An eligible disabled visitor and companion together pay the price of one full-price ticket; the official snooker sheet says carer free.
For a party of more than two including a companion, or if online booking does not fit your needs, call 01904 313297, Monday–Friday 9am–5.30pm. Nimbus support is 0330 808 5108. Use the venue access instructions and Nimbus registration guidance.
Wheelchairs and seating
The venue describes wheelchair positions in balcony slips and the front stalls, with level access to balcony row A and certain front stalls rows. Those are ordinary auditorium descriptions. The UK Championship uses temporary seating, so ask for the 2026 snooker wheelchair position, companion seat and route rather than selecting a concert seat code.
The ordinary fixed seats are 450–480mm wide and have fixed armrests. The published widest-seat codes belong to the concert configuration and are not a promise about snooker chairs. Explain any transfer, chair-width or legroom requirement when booking.
The two-table layout lasts through 4 December; the single-table weekend is 5–6 December. Ask which table your accessible position faces and whether a rail, camera or spectators could interrupt its view. Neither published arena plan provides a seat-by-seat screen-view guarantee.
Getting to the entrance
The main entrance is reached at ground level from the piazza on Paragon Street. The foyer is level. There is a lift to the first floor with voice announcements and raised controls; the auditorium, bars and meeting rooms have step-free access routes.
From York station, allow around 20 minutes on city streets. The wall-top route has stairs and closes at dusk, so avoid it as an accessible route. A taxi to the Paragon Street entrance may reduce the outdoor journey; ask about a suitable drop-off with the venue.
Q-Park Barbican on Kent Street has disabled parking according to the venue. A Blue Badge does not guarantee a free space or availability in a private car park. The closest parking is about a minute away; book and check the pedestrian route directly.
Toilets, hearing and assistance dogs
Accessible toilets are available on both ground and first floors. The venue has low sections at service counters. [UNVERIFIED: a Changing Places toilet on site.] The access pages name accessible WCs but do not establish a hoist or adult changing bench; contact the venue if those are essential.
The auditorium uses a Sennheiser hearing-assistance system. Request a pack at the box office or from a steward. The venue says ordinary hearing aids need a pack to use this system; do not assume a standalone hearing aid will connect.
Assistance and hearing dogs are welcome. Discuss the dog’s space, water and a suitable seat in advance. A nearby exit or extra space is not automatically included in a Standard ticket.
Sensory needs and medical items
The venue has not published a dedicated 2026 snooker quiet-room or relaxed-session arrangement. Ask in advance about a quieter waiting space, exit/re-entry support and assistance during long play. Phones and spectators are expected to be quiet while frames are in progress; applause and sudden crowd noise still happen.
Terms prohibit outside refreshments but allow medical needs to be discussed with staff. Explain medication, essential food or drink and medical bags before travel. Published bag dimensions conflict between the FAQ and terms; get written advice for an item that could be refused.
Leaving the building and returning normally needs staff consent. Arrange breaks and support with the access team if that restriction affects your visit.
Contacts and checks
For accessible tickets or a larger party: 01904 313297 on weekday office hours. For a current venue enquiry use the official contact form. During your visit, stewards can call assistance; for an immediate emergency call 999 and give York Barbican, Paragon Street, York YO10 4AH.
Access arrangements checked 6 October 2026 against the venue’s accessibility, venue-access and Nimbus pages. This guide is independent; our standards explain how we check facts. Return to the York Barbican hub or UK Championship tickets and sessions.
