The venue

York Barbican is outside the city walls, beside Fishergate and Walmgate. The UK Championship uses a temporary arena inside the auditorium, not the ordinary concert seating layout.

The venue’s conference page lists 1,400 seated for its auditorium. That is not a verified snooker capacity: tables, cameras and temporary seating change the layout. [UNVERIFIED: exact saleable capacity for snooker.]

You buy a reserved seat for a named session. The cheapest Standard ticket is £30 before fees; hospitality starts at £255 for a quarter-final session. These are published prices, not a stock check. See the complete session and all-day price tables.

The venue advertises a booking fee plus a facility fee: £2.30 for shows with an average ticket value up to £45, and £2.80 at £45 and above. The £45 wording overlaps and the booking fee is not quantified. Read the checkout total before paying; the calculator asks for that actual fee quote.

Getting there

York station: the venue’s newer getting-here page gives a 20-minute walk. Older contact text says 15 minutes; use 20 minutes for planning. York is on the East Coast Main Line, with LNER services to London King’s Cross and connections towards Leeds, Manchester and Newcastle.

Street route: walk via the city streets towards Ouse Bridge, Tower Street and Fishergate. The wall-top walkway has steps and closes at dusk; it is not an evening return route or an accessible shortcut.

Buses: stops on Fishergate and Walmgate / Lawrence Street are nearest. Designer Outlet Park & Ride is service 7. The council currently says the last city-centre departures across Park & Ride are around 10.30pm; check the actual route timetable. Overnight parking is prohibited and gates close after the last bus.

Parking: Q-Park Barbican on Kent Street is about 1 minute away; Peel Street and St George’s Field about 5 minutes, Castle about 8 minutes, according to the venue. Availability is limited and separate from your event ticket.

Late return: a York–London King’s Cross train on LNER or York–Leeds service may suit an afternoon ticket; neither is a verified late-evening connection for your date. [UNVERIFIED: date-specific last trains after the 2026 evening sessions.] Use National Rail and LNER’s journey planner before committing to a same-night return. A match can overrun the time you hoped to leave.

On the day

  1. Before arrival: check the ticket’s entry instructions. AXS displays doors at the same 1pm time as play for a checked listing; a separate advance doors time has not been confirmed.
  2. 1pm or 7pm: the published session start. Be ready to sit before the first frame.
  3. Mid-session interval: normally after four frames in a best-of-11 match; use this as a format guide, subject to the referee’s announcement.
  4. Finish: there is no fixed end. Allow roughly 3–4 hours as an editorial planning estimate, with the possibility of shorter or longer play.

Payments: York Barbican is cashless; take a bank card. Clothes: WST requests smart clothing and no sportswear or team shirts in the arena. Wear layers for the November / December street walk.

Bags: avoid backpacks, suitcases and laptop bags; the venue has no bag storage. Its FAQ and terms publish different small-bag size limits and contradictory backpack wording. [UNVERIFIED: a single consistent event bag-size rule.] Ask the venue before travelling with anything beyond a small handbag; discuss medical exceptions in advance.

Food and drink: outside food and drink are prohibited by the venue’s terms. Buy inside or eat before entry. Leaving and returning needs staff permission; do not assume a session ticket permits unrestricted re-entry.

Phones: silence your phone before entering and keep it put away. WST’s published terms prohibit mobile-phone use and unauthorised recording; follow the stewards’ directions about moving while a frame is under way. This timeline draws on the official timetable, venue terms and the established match format, checked 6 October 2026.

Families and groups

AXS says under-14s need an adult over 18; the venue terms also refer to ages 14 and under. Bringing an adult over 18 with any child aged 14 or below satisfies both published versions. No separate child price appears on the 2026 sheet.

Concessions are listed only for weekday last-32 and last-16 sessions and their all-day offers. The sheet names 65+, registered unemployed, students with NUS evidence, NHS staff with NHS ID, and registered disabled visitors; proof may be required. An eligible disabled visitor’s carer is free through the accessible-booking process.

No published group discount or minimum group size was found. Ask the official seller for adjoining seats and an actual group quote. Accessible parties of more than two, including a companion, should call 01904 313297.

Where to stay

These walking times are planning estimates to the Barbican, not audited accessible routes. No hotel prices are quoted.

Walmgate and the city centre

Station side

A station-side room saves a further transfer after arriving by train. The walk back from the arena still takes time after a late deciding frame.

Before, between and after play

Before the afternoon session

fossgate SOCIAL serves coffee on Fossgate, about 10 minutes away. Robinsons on Bishopthorpe Road is a brunch option about 15 minutes away. York has no morning play on the published 2026 timetable.

Between sessions

Brew York’s Walmgate venue has a beer hall and Yuzu street food, roughly 6–8 minutes away. Families are welcome. Fossgate has more cafés and restaurants within roughly 10 minutes; leave time for the return walk and security.

After evening play

The Phoenix Inn on George Street is about 3–5 minutes from the venue. Brew York is another nearby option. A 7pm start gives neither a guaranteed finish nor a guaranteed open kitchen; check that night’s opening hours before relying on food afterwards.

A smaller traditional pub

The Blue Bell at 53 Fossgate is about 8–10 minutes away. Its house rules exclude groups and children. Its small rooms suit a pair of adults, but no quiet atmosphere is promised during championship week.

Named businesses checked 6 October 2026. Distances are approximate. None has published special 2026 snooker opening hours in the checked sources.

Things to do in York

City walls and Walmgate Bar

The walls are a few minutes from the arena. They normally open at 8am and close at dusk, with weather closures. The walkway involves steps.

The Shambles

The narrow historic shopping street is around 12–15 minutes away. Combine it with Coppergate before afternoon play rather than a short mid-session interval.

Clifford’s Tower

Above Tower Street, around 8–10 minutes away. Check access and opening arrangements with English Heritage.

JORVIK Viking Centre

Coppergate, about 10–12 minutes away. Book an actual admission slot around your session.

York Minster

About 20–25 minutes across the centre. Allow for the walk back; this is better before afternoon play or on a free day.

National Railway Museum

Behind the station, about 25–30 minutes away. Pair it with arrival or departure rather than a brief arena break.

All distances are approximate street-walk estimates, not accessible-route audits.

Help on the day

Emergency: call 999 for an immediate threat to life. Give York Barbican, Paragon Street, York YO10 4AH, and alert a steward so staff can direct responders.

Inside: ask the nearest steward or security officer for medical help, access support or a seat-view problem. Report a problem during the session rather than waiting until you get home.

Access booking: 01904 313297 Monday–Friday 9am–5.30pm, including accessible bookings for more than two people. For general ticket issues use the venue’s official AXS link and its seller support. WST ticket questions: ticketing@wst.tv. Venue contact page provides its current enquiry form. The official Visit York event listing gives info@yorkbarbican.co.uk for venue enquiries.
