What the Players Championship is

The Players Championship is a ranking tournament for the top sixteen players on the one-year ranking list. That list measures earnings in the current season, so the field reflects recent form. The event is the middle stop in the Players Series: the World Grand Prix has a wider field and the Tour Championship a smaller one. Winning here earns ranking prize money as well as the trophy.

WST confirms Telford International Centre for 2–7 March 2027. The venue also hosted the 2026 edition. Its £500,000 prize fund pays £150,000 to the winner, £70,000 to the runner-up, £35,000 to each losing semi-finalist, £20,000 to each losing quarter-finalist and £15,000 for a last-sixteen exit. The high-break award is £10,000.

Zhao Xintong is defending champion after beating John Higgins 10–7 in the 2026 Telford final. The qualifying field for 2027 depends on the one-year standings at the tournament cutoff. Use WST’s event page for the eventual draw and player schedule.

How to pick a session

Choose Tuesday or Wednesday for the lowest Standard session price: £28 before the 10% fee. Two matches run at each start on those days. Standard seats are unreserved, so an earlier arrival gives a wider choice of available places. The £35 reserved category is a different ticket; check its table allocation when purchasing.

Thursday and Friday quarter-finals are single-table sessions at £38 Standard. Thursday retains a £28 concession option; Friday introduces £70 Premium instead. These days let you follow one complete best-of-eleven quarter-final without the two-table setup.

Saturday semi-finals cost £45 Standard per session, while Sunday’s final costs £50 Standard per session. A final afternoon begins a match that continues in the evening. Book both sessions separately if you want the whole final: the published Sunday day ticket is sold out as checked on 9 October.

All-day Standard prices are £45 for Tuesday or Wednesday, £65 for either quarter-final day and £80 on Saturday. A Tuesday Standard day ticket costs £49.50 after the published fee, compared with £61.60 for two separate £28 sessions. Compare the priced category and day before adding your travel and hotel budget.

The transition to one table is Thursday 4 March, at the quarter-finals. Tuesday and Wednesday use two tables for the last sixteen. The tournament director allocates players and tables. Buy against the published session and seat category; the eventual draw supplies the named matches.

WST’s tariff says Standard seating on Tuesday and Wednesday is unreserved and first come. Its fine print describes reserved first-three-row seating at table 1 or 2, while the price column is headed Reserved T1. Ask the seller which table your offered reserved ticket faces. Thursday to Sunday use reserved seats.

[UNVERIFIED: a dividing partition and the precise ability to change table areas during early play]. The linked seating plans show restricted-view and carer positions, but the checked text gives no spectator movement rule between tables. Follow the stewards, particularly while the other match continues.

Best of eleven means the first player to six frames wins. The final is best of nineteen, first to ten, with eight frames scheduled in the afternoon and up to eleven in the evening. A close deciding-frame match lasts longer than a one-sided result. Finishes are score-dependent rather than fixed clock times.

All 42 published amounts are transcribed from the official PDF into research/prices-players-championship.json. A dash means the category has no listed price for that row. Amounts above are before the 10% booking fee. For example, £25 concession costs £27.50, £38 Standard costs £41.80, and £85 Premium costs £93.50 after the fee.

WST says it donates £1 from every ticket sold to charity. That donation is not a separate purchaser levy. The Sunday day row remains visible because it is part of the published tariff; it is excluded from the calculator while sold out. Check the official ticket page for live seat availability.

The PDF’s banner ends “07 APR”, but every dated row runs to 7 March. WST’s ticket page, event overview and on-sale announcement all confirm 2–7 March 2027. This guide follows those dates and records the banner typo in the research handoff.

Concessions are available Tuesday to Thursday for ages 16 and under, 65 and over, unemployed visitors, NUS students, NHS ID holders and registered disabled visitors. Bring proof. The published offer includes a free carer for registered disabled spectators. No concession amounts are listed Friday to Sunday.

Entry and early finishes

A session ticket covers the named admission. A match ends when a player wins the required frames; an early result can leave less play than a close match. WST’s terms provide refunds for cancellation or material alteration, not an automatic refund for a short match. Retain your order confirmation and read the original seller’s terms before paying.

WST bars unauthorised ticket transfer and resale. Late visitors enter at a suitable break, and an empty seat five minutes before the start may be reallocated under its box-office conditions. Give yourself time for the entrance search and any seat enquiries.

[UNVERIFIED: minimum child age and accompanying-adult age for this edition]. Contact ticketing@wst.tv about a child’s admission before booking. A concession price for sixteen and under is published, but an accompanying-age rule is absent from the checked event documents.

The Telford hub’s on-the-day section covers doors, dress, phones, refreshments and venue help. The accessibility guide covers companion allocation, lifts, parking bays and equipment hire.

Players Championship moments

The event began as the Players Tour Championship Grand Finals in 2011. It developed into the Players Championship in 2017. Judd Trump won that 2017 edition and again in 2020. Ronnie O’Sullivan won consecutive titles in 2018 and 2019.

John Higgins won in 2021; Neil Robertson followed in 2022 and Shaun Murphy in 2023. Mark Allen won in 2024, Kyren Wilson in 2025 and Zhao Xintong in 2026. These winners show the tournament’s changing in-form field across its recent editions.

In the 2026 final, Zhao beat Higgins 10–7 in Telford. WST’s report records the final and the winner’s £150,000 prize. For a first visit, the final evening follows the afternoon score: arriving with the match already underway changes the tension of each frame and brings the trophy presentation into your session.

Your wider Telford trip

Stay near Southwater for a short journey to the afternoon start and back after evening play. The International Hotel and voco are on site; Premier Inn publishes a five-minute walk. A station-side base can help with the train home next morning. The hub groups hotels by area and gives estimated walks without room prices.

Use the long gap between afternoon and evening sessions for dinner. Zizzi, Novello Lounge, Nando’s and Bella Italia are Southwater options. Check the ticket’s re-entry arrangements and return in time for the 7pm start. Food for a short interval is easiest inside.

A free morning suits Town Park or Southwater. Ironbridge is a separate half-day outing; allow travel time back to the arena. The Wrekin requires suitable footwear and a longer outdoor plan. The venue guide links the visitor information and named places.

Check the dated train home before booking evening-only travel. The station walk takes around 10–15 minutes, and a deciding frame has no fixed finish. An overnight stay removes that last-train deadline from the match itself.
